The Sema ceremony of the Mevlevi dervishes is a spiritual tradition recognised by UNESCO. Watching the white robes turn to the sound of the ney is a deeply moving experience.
The Experience
A tradition of over seven centuries.
Inspired by the teachings of Mevlana Rumi, the Sema is a meditative ritual rather than a performance. Each gesture carries meaning, from the removal of the black cloak to the slow, continuous turning.
We can include a ceremony in a historic setting in Istanbul or Konya, or arrange a private performance for your group, with an introduction to its history and symbolism.
